Akshata Murty is passionate about entrepreneurship, education and impact. She co-founded the numeracy charity The Richmond Project in 2025. The charity is built on the belief that numbers have the power to transform lives and unlock social mobility across the UK.

In 2025, Akshata became a trustee of the V&A, a museum which brings together her passion for creativity, fashion and history. Born in Bangalore, she has a deep personal connection to India and is passionate about strengthening the relationship with Britain. Through education and culture, the Living Bridge project draws on her knowledge of both countries, using storytelling and museum collections to help young people in the UK and India understand their shared history and imagine a more collaborative future.

During her time living in Downing Street, she launched 'Lessons at 10', providing children from schools across the United Kingdom with a unique opportunity to go into Number 10 and learn from special guests and industry experts. She is also a keen supporter of the veteran community.

Prior to this, Akshata spent over a decade working with early-stage consumer-focused British companies, providing funding and strategic counsel. She is currently an adviser to the US e-commerce retailer Quince.

Since 2013, Akshata has served on the board of her alma mater Claremont McKenna College, a leading US liberal arts college from which she graduated with a BA. Akshata has an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a degree in fashion from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.
